The culture and management of Disney have fascinated me for years. The Ride of a Lifetime is part autobiography with an inside look at the highlights of Bob Iger's tenure as CEO of Disney. I really like the details covering the negotiations and purchases of Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.
The Third Door takes listeners on an unprecedented adventure - from hacking Warren Buffett’s shareholders meeting to chasing Larry King through a grocery store to celebrating in a nightclub with Lady Gaga - as Alex Banayan travels from icon to icon, decoding their success. The one key they have in common: they all took the Third Door.
To Pixar and Beyond covers the development and execution of Pixar's business plan in the early 1990s, ending in the sale of Pixar to Disney in 2006. The details of Lawrence and Steve Jobs planning their negotiation of a second film contract with Disney were especially fascinating.
Robert Caro's biographies, The Power Broker about Robert Moses, and the series on Lyndon Johnson are among my favorite books. His explanation of his writing process is fascinating. Especially his thoughts on how he prepares to write a book, outlining, and how he counts and charts his words written at the end of every day.
Paul's videos and books are inspiring to me and they have helped me make many significant improvements in my own life and at work. His company tour is one of my favorite videos and I've embedded it at the end of the summary.
You will like this book if you have an interest in basketball, coaching, John Wooden, or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem tells a wonderful story with many good insights.
Deep Work gives insights into the importance of mastery and the value of doing deep work. I really like, and agree with, the thesis and hypothesis of the book. Everyone should find value in this book and I often recommend it as one of my favorites.
The ONE Thing is incredible and is on my list of best books of 2018. It shares several similar concepts with Essentialism. The main concepts that helped me are learning to use the focusing question, being aware of the domino effect, and time blocking.
Insights into building company culture, what makes good team players, and specific tactics for interviewing and hiring. The book has value for any leaders, managers, employees, and especially for anyone involved in hiring and human resources.
Bluefishing exceeded my expectations. Steve Sims makes many key points covering topics of passion, relationships, career advice, learning, failure, creating experiences for people and customers, brand building, and more.
